perhaps it was magic

i probably should not type this, but i think the internet has been magically restored in my home! hopefully i am not jinxing myself.

thank you to everyone whose purchases earlier today led to a stocked-then-empty shop in the time it took me to finish my iced tea.

i just snuck a few more bags into the shop, if you want to take a look.

and by technical, i mean technical

i just wanted to say a quick hello and offer a quick apology. our internet is down and i have been trying to do as much as i can from the coffee shop, but would like to ask for a bit of extra patience while i find the internet access and time to respond to each of your requests and inquiries. hopefully the internet will be back to normal tomorrow or perhaps even be magically restored by the time i get home!

in the meantime, please enjoy these photos of the pets, frances houseman and vinegar vincent price. frances and i have been taking care of vinegar while his person (my housemate) is in guatemala. they seriously love each other and have been snuggling and playing and melting my heart.

a sunday well spent

kaitlin and i went to see zoe strauss's photographs displayed under I-95 earlier today. this is year nine of this ten-year project, and i am ashamed to admit that this is the first year i have made it out to see it. there were 231 photographs on display. it was pretty incredible.

because it was raining and because there was a movie theater just a few blocks away and because i sort of love beyonce, we went to see obsessed afterward. it was pretty entertaining. the fight scene between her and ali larter is pretty badass.

all in all, a sunday well spent.

a certain preppy alligator

here's the thing. remember yesterday when i said i would list that small batch of new shoulder bags? well, about ten minutes ago, i did just that very thing. and about thirty seconds later, they were nearly gone! sold! tomorrow they will be on their way to their new homes, and i am very flattered and excited.

thanks everyone!

and if you missed today's update, do not despair! more to follow very, very soon!

as of now, there are two of this style available. these fabrics together with the handles remind me of that certain preppy brand with the alligator. you know the one (it rhymes with schacoste).

... and by technical, i mean emotional

hello!

i am here!

and i am sorry!

madebyhank has been experiencing some technical difficulties.

i am very, very glad that april is just about over, because i am completely over this month. this has been sort of a terrible month for me. i moved to a new home/workspace at the beginning of the month, and have been busy mending a broken heart and settling in and organizing (and turning twenty-eight). but mostly i have been busy being sad and distracted and frustrated (and watching four seasons of weeds and two seasons of dexter).

not only has my heart been hurting quite a bit, but my brain is a little overloaded also. you see, i am terrible with computers and technology of any kind, and also have no knowledge of how to use a camera properly (or at all, really). i invested in a new computer, camera, and printer, but have no idea how to use any of these objects, and it has been incredibly frustrating.

and because up to this point, the person who is no longer sharing my life with me took such great photos for me, and because i have received so many compliments on them, i am super intimidated to take the giant leap and start shooting them myself.

but! i also do not want to give up, and do not want to let down those of you who have been waiting so patiently. and so! i will just do it, and be not-so-great at it in the beginning but hopefully i will develop some skills with time, and also will have some help from a friend soon, so things are looking up.

i added a few small items to my shop today, and will add a batch of shoulder bags some time tomorrow.

also! i am also working on stocking up for the renegade craft fair in brooklyn in early june. maybe i will see some of you there? more on that soon.

dear coffee

dear coffee,

thank you.
you know, for making my life possible right now.

love,
hank.

i added a few zipper clutch a-go-go's to the shop, along with a few smaller zips. they are all in my favorite shades of aqua and and olive. some have stripes. some do not. you know, for those of you who are into stripes, and those of you who are not so much into stripes.

and now i will return to the task at hand: put my life in boxes.

enjoy your weekends everyone!

mouth like a trucker, face like a dumptruck

that's me, folks.

well, i suppose, in all fairness, my face is a bit better than a dumptruck, but my mouth is certainly worse than a trucker. i had things fairly under control during my nanny days, when most of my time was spent around people who were three years old or younger.

but these days, i am have had to make a real effort to keep my potty mouth in check. i have been trying to replace the f-word, which has led me to say geez so often if is embarassing. living in philadelphia, the word geez is so much more noticeable than that f-word, which is both sad and kind of funny.

so that was a goal, and i am doing quite well with it so far.

my other goal was to keep my etsy shop stocked.

i just added three whole pages of new ceations! most of them are a few of a kind, to make things a bit more manageable while i finish up packing and moving to the new place.

um, did i say finish packing? what i meant, of course, was start packing. i did put a few small dishes in a box today. but that is as far as i have gotten. i always wait until the very last possible day to pack everything up in one big whirlwind, because i end up needing something that is already packed away and then tearing through all of the boxes to find what i need. and then packing everything back up again.

also, this time around, i need to keep my workspace set up as long as possible.

so anyway, back to the shop.

i added a new batch of the zipper clutch a-go-go's, some roundy-bottoms, pencil purses, and smaller zipper purses, all in new fabrics.

i will likely not have more shoulder bags ready until early april. i know i have been promising them for quite some time, and that many of you have been so patient already, but it will take a bit longer than expected to finish those up. i will try my best, though!

in the meantime, look for this lovelies in the shop:
