shop talk
i just added some of the zipper purses, as well as one patricia bag to my etsy shop. it has been quite a while since i have sold items through etsy, and i have been going back and forth about which shop to keep and which to close (etsy vs. bigcartel), or if i should have both open at once. i am going to have both open for the time being, and once i finish up the existing orders that i am behind on, i will add new items to the etsy shop. i have had mixed reactions from customers, so here id your platform to help me decide. which of my shops do you prefer-- etsy or bigcartel, and why?

the 24-hour tote project
do you know about tim gough and greg pizzoli? well, they are two super talented dudes who make really good art. they had a show together recently at masthead print studio. they made five collaboration prints together, and printed one of the images onto t-shirts. when tim was printing them, he also printed a few panels of fabric, which i stitched into a small batch of tote bags. there were only six made, and three of them are now available (in turquoise, brown with black, and brown with charcoal) in tim's shop.
they each feature the collaborative print titled indestructible life on the front, with mixed canvases and denims. they have an exterior slip pocket on the back, finished with a wooden MADEBYHANK button. lined with cream and black graph check print heavy cotton, with one slip pocket, a small clip, and an antique brass finish magnetic snap set into a small repurposed suede detail.
measurements:
body. 16"wide, 16"tall, 3.5" deep at base
handles. 26.5" long on brown bags, 22.5" long on turquoise bag
exterior pocket. 7"wide, 8"tall
interior pocket. 6"wide, 6"tall
find more of greg's work here, and more of tim's here. and don't forget to enter tim's giveaway for a chance to win a print of you can't outrun the devil.
two more
a few of you inquired about missing out on the black and white graphic print shoulder bags that i listed last week, and i just wanted to give a heads-up that i was able to make two more. so if you were interested, they are available here.
hope everyone had a warm and fun weekend. i sewed for almost eighteen hours on saturday, and while my lower back kind of hates me right now, it feels really good to be just about caught up. if you placed an order, it will ship by wednesday (they were listed as taking up to one week to prepare for shipping). if you have any questions about the status of your order, please email at madebyhank@gmail.com. have a good monday!

a backpack and a happy hump day sale
a while back, i made a giant backpack for my friend joanna. she went on a small adventure to a few spots on the west coast so we worked out a trade and i made this crazy backpack for her. she gave me the canvas and the burlap that i used for the ruffles, and i worked in some stripes and a few other details, and this is the result.
**also, i am running a small afternoon sale. as an extra thank you to my blog readers, receive 15% off of all orders placed between now and today (wednesday november 3rd) at 4pm EST from my bigcartel shop. just enter the code HUMPDAYSALE. happy wednesday!
black and cream and awesome all over

deep blues tough ruffles
two new tough ruffle shoulder bags available here and here. both have repurposed leather straps, doubled over and twice topstitched. i am really happy with how the straps turned out, the leather is soft and perfect for resting comfortably on hard-working shoulders.
hope everyone had a happy halloween!
oh, and also, the madge, poppy, meg, and dorothy purses have been marked down to make room for new additions.
